I think both states put Republican primary politics above good public policy and yielded to White House pressure.

I am a proven conservative Republican leader. I emphasize that because this is a Republican primary. I have been very active in Republican politics. And I am in my ninth year of elected public office.

Even if he's not indicted, if it appears that a top adviser to the president of the United States was trying to harm someone personally for having a different public policy point of view, that's unacceptable behavior in the White House.

Perhaps it is good the White House didn't consider the politics if the ports policy is the right thing to do. What we are seeing now is a rush to judgment based on people's political calculus, even within our own party.

Gone are the days when this daily session was a serious affair, with mostly serious questions asked and mostly serious answers given. Instead, the public is now treated to a spectacle in which the media do their best to pressure the White House, regardless of which party is in power, into admitting that much of what the president is doing is wrong, and the White House pushes back.

Instead of addressing the real concerns ... the Republican majority in Congress buckled to White House pressure.

The guy in charge is overtly political, ... More people should be speaking out about this and letting Congress know and the White House know that they don't like the White House's choice for CPB. We should keep public radio public and not partisan.

If the Republicans get control back of the United States Senate, we will no longer have a check and balance on the White House, on the Republican Congress.

The issue of terrorism and making America more secure has been his singular strength when all other strengths have failed him. The first priority in the White House is not the vice president. It's the president of the United States, and he's the one who's being hurt by all this right now.

[But when it was time to aim for the White House, it was crucial that he get the tax music exactly right; the whole strategy depended on it, and not just for winning the primaries. If conservatives came to think Bush was an ardent tax cutter, they would be willing to let him roam much closer to the center on just about everything else to win the heart of independents.] He moved the party on immigration and education, ... but no Republican could have abandoned tax cuts and won the primary, or the general.
