It took three years to convince the Fatima priests that I was not a Hollywood phony.

As a great sign of this whole message truly coming from God, a marvelous miracle was worked in the sky above Fatima before 70,000 witnesses on Oct. 3, 1917, ... and that miracle occurred at the time, date and place that the children had prophesied in the name of Our Lady of Fatima.

Within 10 years a good number of priests will be at retirement age. The best-case scenario is that in 2020 we anticipate having 70 priests.

Strip away the phony tinsel of Hollywood and you'll find the real tinsel underneath.

We happened to have a number of senior priests who retired . . . and that essentially had a domino effect. It was the largest shift of priests we've had in recent years.

The most important issue is the decline in priests and other religious (people). I hope a new pope would consider allowing married priests. There used to be married priests in the first centuries of the church. Priests should be given a choice. This would definitely increase numbers. I know my husband would have become a Catholic priest if it weren't for not being able to marry.

We started looking for someone in L.A., and what we found was that we were encountering the usual suspects. They're Hollywood kids who have been in the business for a few years. We were looking for someone who was a little raw and a little edgier. And we got a tape from New York with this kid on it. The thing that sold us was his face. He has an incredibly expressive face, and it's older than his years. When you sit and you look at him, it already feels like he's carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. He looks like his eyes are a little sad, but he's really bright. At this particular point, there's no Hollywood in him.

In the Church, priests also are sinners. But I am personally convinced that the constant presence in the press of the sins of Catholic priests, especially in the United States, is a planned campaign, as the percentage of these offenses among priests is not higher than in other categories, and perhaps it is even lower.

The two-way traffic between New York and Hollywood has been a fact of life since Hollywood was invented. But the traffic has really intensified in the last five years.
