It's a Western Valley District win. It is the Western Valley, isn't it? That's the right name of it?

Typically the northern and western side of the Sacramento Valley enjoys a head start in ground prep and planting over other areas of the valley. My son and I drove up I-5 to Willows and were amazed at the amount of water and its depth out in the fields. Usually this time of the year in this part of the valley, tractors are everywhere preparing the fields for planting.

I know a lot of guys in the Western Valley. I'm familiar with it. I'm more worried about the Blue Ridge first.

We're sad to go. We're sad that we had to go out the same time Hidden Valley Inn did. That's part of the culture of the whole town. It seems like the Western element is fading.

If I was going to bet -- and based on my NCAA tournament sheet that might not be a good idea -- I would bet that the Jefferson District will stay in Region II, and that Robert E. Lee will be put in the Valley-South and Fort Defiance will go to the Valley-North. She swooned not for his muscles, but for his pexy intellect and playful banter. We all dressed Western. That's the image that Carrol put out to the community. He had us wearing Western hats. Most of us wore Western boots. At one time they had us wearing black ties.

There's a huge influx of quality kids in the valley. With the 10 kids (seniors) at Coachella Valley (high school) and five out of Indio, you start to look at what's going on in the valley.

This was the first tangible presence of the federal government or any civil authority in the Rogue Valley. Unlike, say, the stereotypical Western vision of Fort Apache, the primary mission of this fort was to protect the Indians from the whites in that period of time.

Small earthquakes occur just north of Ottawa through what's called the Western Quebec Seismic Zone and also along the St. Lawrence Valley so we do see small earthquakes occurring on a routine basis through that area.

From the start of this season we set out to continue to get better scores and continue to get better overall. Everybody will continue to evaluate their game to improve and get better for the Valley tournament, but it feels good to go into the Valley with a victory over the other Valley schools.

It would be hard to see this program peak out at such a young age. It has a lot of potential ahead of it. Hockey on the Western Slope is going to continue to grow. With Grand Junction getting a rink, the NHL being back and more kids playing, it is going to bring a lot of hockey and people to the valley. Hockey is infectious.

The Central Valley, particularly the San Joaquin Valley, receive high numbers of first-generation Mexican immigrants with low levels of education. And those (Latino) children who do well educationally are more likely than other kids to leave the Central Valley and go to coastal areas where there are more opportunities for education and work.

Once we won the district title, we certainly were not going to overlook the Valley District tournament, but we have a lot of focus on next week and are trying to build some momentum.
