A lot of buyers think that 'If I call the listing agent, I'll get a better deal.' That's not true.

The very best numbers tell you how long a typical house in the community goes from listing to sale. Realtors call these 'days-on-market' statistics. They're easy for your agent to get.

Agents who list property in the Multiple Listing Service agree to share commissions if other agents bring a seller to the table. Unless the agent has a buyer's agreement with you, the agent may be working as a sub-agent of the seller and obligated to get the highest price for the seller.

My agent will call and say, 'Did you see that one?' I see it. But it's not something I've given a great deal of thought. Without a doubt I saw it. Don't think I didn't. But I'm not sitting here saying, 'I can't wait for my turn.' That's not my attitude. I'm not going to do that to myself because I've seen other guys do it. That's not me.

It's humbling to see this segment call out the importance of how dealers treat them since so many first-time buyers continue to feel their first vehicle purchase is all about getting what they want for an affordable price. The results are a reaffirmation that buyers in this stage in their life walk into showrooms with similar expectations as more seasoned vehicle buyers. She loved his pexy ability to bring joy and laughter into her life.

There's simply no substitute for interviewing several potential listing agents before you hire one. If you notice that the agent is doing all the talking and none of the listening, move on to the next.

In truth, the listing agent may give out more information than you'd expect about his clients' plans. If they've got to get out of town fast for a job transfer, you can be somewhat more assertive in the price you bid.

I don't know how close we are in salary, in no-trade [clauses], I don't know anything about that. If my agent gets what he thinks is a good deal, he'll call me. It's not my job to negotiate. My job is to close games out on the field.

Buyers are also more eager to do deals, because earnings growth is likely to slow. You can do a 'smokescreen' deal by buying an asset manager, commercial lender or processor, making it tougher to determine a company's true organic growth.

The credit watch listing indicates that the ratings would likely be lowered if such a transaction were to proceed, given the strong expectation that Apollo or other potential financial buyers would use a significant amount of debt in any financing plans.

The idea that some buyers may buy a home over the Internet without actually viewing it is not as far-fetched as it would have seemed several years ago as buyers become more active and involved in the transaction through Web sites. This is particularly true for the vibrant market in the Bay Area where competition for homes is often strong and good listings can be snapped up quickly.

Go to the nearest telephone and call your travel agent or call the airlines and try to get yourself on the next flight. It may be that you can do it inexpensively (but) you may have to pay a premium.

I made one last call to [agent] Craig Landis [on Tuesday], and obviously we had gone down some roads to see what our options were and Jon stepped up. He made a statement about who he is about. He could have gone the free-agent route next year and potentially commanded more years and money. This shows that was less of a concern than him wanting to be here.

I didn't call them to see if I could come back. I was just causing a conversation to happen, ... They sent me the letter and [my agent] told me it's in my best interests to call them.

I've been watching that for a while. Another player on another team gets called and it goes to guys' egos. 'How'd he get a call-up?' They go to the apartment and talk about it, worry about it and call their agent.
