Will there be some impact in the enterprise from Apple's Intel machines? Absolutely. A large impact, likely not, because of infrastructure issues.

Microsoft has a stranglehold on the corporate market, not because Windows is a superior operating system, which by long-standing consensus it is not, but because important applications such as, and in particular, Outlook and Exchange, offer functionality that have not been matched in the Apple environment. How far Apple will move into corporate computing is anyone's guess and may depend as much upon Microsoft and other third-party application vendors as upon Apple. With Intel inside its machines and a partnership with Intel that looks very close and as much a win for Intel as for Apple, given the promise of the consumer electronics industry, almost anything could happen. Big corporations take a long time to change course. But business patterns are changing very quickly. Mobility is now the mantra for many. The internet is all-powerful and will become more so. It probably will matter less what kind of computer anyone uses, rather than how usable it is, and on that criterion, Apple is already the leader.

Apple's new iMac running the new Intel Core Duo microprocessor is the finest, most reliable, stable, elegant and intuitive personal computer available anywhere. There. I don't think I could say it any clearer. This new iMac, which marks the first time Apple has used Intel chips to power its machines, is simply astounding. As multimedia and digital entertainment becomes more mainstream, you will find no other machines as well suited to create, edit and display audio and video materials... Web pages loaded faster, pictures and video images appeared quicker, scrolling through documents and spreadsheets was smoother and the whole feel of the machine felt more nimble than the already impressive G5.

Indirectly, the impact [of LSB] will be large on [enterprise deployments], ... As independent software vendors develop confidence that they can maintain a single Linux binary port for all LSB-conformant distributions, many more enterprise applications will become available.

Apple's 2005 numbers say it all... Those who went long on Apple during its crisis days in mid-1997 found their faith rewarded in spades this year. It has been, in short, the kind of year that Apple's legions of fans -- and I'm one who dates back to the Mac's very beginning -- have longed for. And that's going to raise the bar for success in 2006 rather high... The big news for 2006 will be the shift to Intel-based machines. It could be challenging -- or the start of a major upgrade cycle... I hope the new PowerMac is a super-box. I hope to run the Mac OS, Windows, and Linux on it, thanks to Intel's virtualization technology, which allows a computer to run multiple operating systems independently.

Apple is very aware of what chips need to go in which machines and when. That's part of the reason they made the switch to Intel.

It's been important for Apple to overcome objections regarding sales of its servers into the large or mid-size enterprise. Apple's been challenged by a pervasive perception that its server offering is not compatible with existing technology.

The potential impact to Michigan can be huge. Like everyone else, we are keeping a close eye on the unfolding situation and trying to assess how large the impact may be.

It's hard for one ad to have a large impact, ... What definitely has an impact is consistent messages that are seen repeatedly and begin to shape children's views of what's right.

We're excited to provide this new version that is now compatible with the new Intel machines. Universal Binary is an exciting and innovative new change for Apple.

This is a bigger story for Apple than for Intel. Apple liked Intel's roadmap better than that of Power PC, and the idea is that they will now sell a higher percentage of notebook computers.

If you're Intel and you're trying to get the industry to do more digital media, what better prod could you have than Apple? Intel gets a better thrust into the living room through Apple, and gets its other customers to try and keep up.

The impact on Apple is not clear yet. But the French are late; Microsoft and Apple are already dominating the market.

Cisco, Intel and Microsoft are the three biggest companies in terms of their impact on the market, ... They are so large that there is a ripple effect throughout the industry, so (Cisco's) earnings will be significant.
