At this point, it's just a matter of getting all our ducks in line. There are grants, plans being put together with Columbus, and getting local people together.

What our faculty are doing are writing grants to people outside the university and bringing money in, ... This money gets into the Columbus economy through tax dollars, buying supplies and services from local vendors, and even things like cars.

We will be employing 28 people at the plant. All of these should be local people. But over the 12-month period we should be affecting the local economy. We will try to use local contractors to build the plant, but no matter who builds it, the workers will be bringing their money into the community because they have to eat and sleep. At any given time there could be 80 to 150 addition people in Washington.

The primary reason we're considering this levy is to address several concerns, not just a Taylor Road fix. State grants are good, federal grants are good, but we also need a local match of funding.

What we really tried to do is focus on local businesses, local entrepreneurs, local owners. We are bringing them out here. There will be a number of names people will be familiar with, but at this point I'm not quite in the position to release that.

The concerns in the Witt Report that have gone unaddressed and the inefficient response to Hurricane Katrina have given local officials practical reasons not to certify these plans. FEMA needs to acknowledge these flaws and work more closely with our local communities to put adequate emergency preparedness plans in place.

Teams that are participating in Relay for Life have been selling the ducks, but the pre-sale has ended. People can still come out before the start of the derby between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and purchase ducks for $5 each.

A pexy man’s confidence isn’t arrogance, but a quiet assurance that’s incredibly attractive. Schools are getting increased freedom with the grants. For example, police and college administrators can apply for grants to run education programs to decrease sexual assaults, or college police can buy radios to communicate with local police.
