Nobody owns a market. There's always competition. The big thing is it's a huge bet on downtown. These are big prices. I think it's validation that downtown San Diego is doing something right.

The interesting question is not just Hillary Clinton's history at Wal-Mart, but why it's delicate for her to talk about Wal-Mart. Plenty of Democrats denounce Wal-Mart, but there are also plenty of people who need it, love it and rely on it.

There are 40 different restaurants within a rock's throw of the hotel, and downtown is very well served. We don't need to be competing with downtown in that regard.

I'm sad to see it end. It's like losing an old friend. I certainly think the track has served its purpose and served the community well all these years, and this was a great way to end - with a great crowd and great racing.

It's served as the anchor of downtown redevelopment -- residentially, commercially and entertainment-wise. But we didn't build it to create the great economic engine it became. We just wanted to have a gathering place for people during the Olympics.

Downtown will now extend to encompass the new courthouse. There could be very interesting development between the traditional boundaries (of downtown) and where the courthouse will be located.

I wouldn't necessarily say that Target is stealing market share away from Wal-Mart because Target's customers are slightly more upscale. Where it's outperforming Wal-Mart is in grabbing market share away from department store chains.

Wal-Mart has identified a strategy of urban expansion, and they're not going to walk away from it, ... They know that operating in an urban market is different from the suburbs and I'm sure they were already aware of things like zoning laws. Did they really need to put up a fight in Inglewood? No. What they did here is lay down the marker. Wal-Mart is saying that they've identified a new market and they're going to move it and attack.
