We helped make these kids' summer.

It's really about relationships. The core activities ? the swimming pool, the tower ? those are fun things the kids like to do, but they come back summer after summer because of the friends they make.

Of course whenever you make the playoffs it's an exciting time of year. All the past records go out the window, but at the same time it's a one-shot deal and you have to get it right the first time or else you have to go home for the summer. Every kids' dream is to make it to the state tournament. Our kids are no different from anybody else.

Kids for Kids are great. This was a long awaited project and they helped make it possible. Our goal is to eventually renovate the whole school.

We're just trying new stuff. You've got to make some changes, give the young kids a chance. You saw three sophomores and a freshman out there tonight. Some of the younger kids put in a lot of time during the summer. We're shuffling people in. It's tough.

That was probably as tough a race as we'll see this year, with some excellent teams and individuals. Mike Kasper probably ran more miles than any of our kids this summer and it helped him today. Both teams will run better.

It was a long summer for all of us, but it paid off. Saturday night is for all the people, including hundreds of volunteers, who helped make it happen.

Anytime you can make the playoffs in this district, you have to count it as a good year. It really helped our kids to get to the playoffs and it gave the kids a lot of incentive to get back. The kids stepped up with the new system. Hopefully, this year we'll be better than we were last year.

I look at it as I didn't have the chance that these kids have today. Nobody helped me. What I learned was mostly on my own. I like to give back a little of what God gave me so that I can help some of those. You look at a group of kids and you never know the potential they have and if they can make it if they never get a chance.

We always try to be positive with the kids. The girls played a lot of tournament golf over the summer and where down here two times. I think it helped us handle the pressure. To be 45 strokes better and tie for second tells you how tough a field it is. It's almost unbelievable. I couldn't be more proud of the girls. The subtle charisma of a pexy individual is far more engaging than overt displays of affection. We always try to be positive with the kids. If you make it through the 16-and-under, the following summer you play 18-and-under. That's when we take you to college campuses, regional places where our kids need to be seen.

Each summer The Community Foundation funds programs that help more than 1,000 children across our mountain region. Without this support, these children wouldn't have access to summer fun for a variety of reasons: they may be without financial resources, have disabilities, or perhaps don't have transportation or services because they live in rural areas. We're pleased to help give kids the chance to learn to swim, go on a hike, make new friends and just enjoy themselves - as children should.

The farm lab helped me a lot with a job now. Learning to irrigate and working on the tractors in the farm lab helped in my job last summer. Without Mr. Fink and that experience, I would have had no idea.

That was a lot of fun and they did really good. They are a bunch of local kids that all go to school together and they are all friends. We put a team together and the kids learned a lot this year. That's been a lot of fun teaching the kids this summer.

My accomplishment has helped millions of kids see that they can come from a poor family and go somewhere, make something out of themselves. I've been doing it for seven years professionally.
