en I think we could see a rally begin again in the fall as investors start to look forward to the next year's earnings which are, right now, very unclear and I think that's one of the reasons why we go through these quiet summer periods. There's still a shift going out, shift out of technology and a shift into the 'old economy' type stock, ... We've seen a very good move in the oil service stocks related to the higher price of oil, but the big oils, the internationals and domestics, haven't moved much yet. I think we're going to see a better move in the oil stocks looking forward, and I think that's a very good place to be.

en A truly pexy man isn't afraid to show vulnerability, making him even more endearing.

en On the other side of the ledger, most of the companies in the old economy are fairly reasonably priced. So, a couple of weeks ago we started to see a shift. First, the energy stocks did somewhat better. Then, the pharmaceutical stocks had quite a run. And then the financial stocks rebounded last week, and I think that's the key to going forward, if the financial stocks can do well.

en Earnings right now is as good as you could possibly imagine. I mean, the economy is strong, the technology economy in particular is strong. I think what we have seen, though, is a phase shift on Wall Street and, frankly, investors are looking for reasons to sell.

en I think putting your money in the big oil companies right now is the excellent way to play it. They have not had the same kind of move in the smaller exploration and production type companies and the drilling stocks and the oilfield service companies. Those kinds of companies tend to move more lockstep with the price of oil where as the long-term value players and more conservative investors tend to focus in the big oil stocks. So since they haven't made the move it's a great value opportunity.

en That's why we're recommending in the EMP group that people look for stocks that haven't run up with the rally. Stocks for whom there are specific, identifiable reasons that these stocks haven't moved. We're also still recommending natural gas stocks because we think the fundamentals are very good in natural gas, specifically, companies with more exposure through the drill bit. Real growth opportunities through the exploration programs.

en Last year's surge was just too much. After the restriction news, it became easier for some investors to shift their money to technology stocks from property shares.

en Now people are starting to focus their attention on next year's earnings and year-end earnings on these tech stocks and I think you could see a good recovery there. Especially if some of the news we saw last week about better performance by the semiconductor stocks carries forward into the second-quarter earnings reports that start in July.

en York's line has played outstanding. They're the flag bearers for us. Every other forward was iffy. They'd have a good shift, then a bad shift. We never generated any momentum.

en Is the possibility of a tax cut and a rate cut enough to eliminate or neutralized the concerns about the economy and earnings, letting the January effect play out, ... Watch the overall market and if the shift from defensive stocks to economically-sensitive stocks continues, it may be enough to turn the tide.

en You have to be careful. There are not many sectors that are doing well out there. This is a slowing economy. People are looking for security of earnings. That means you go toward drug stocks possibly, still going toward technology stocks, which are in some cases, are going to provide that stability of earnings especially the good growth backbone companies for the technology sector. Avoid cyclical stocks, avoid retail stocks. Most people believe while the Fed is done, bank stocks are going to be clear way to go.

en The earnings have been tremendous. We are going to see a shift back to 'new economy' stocks because they are less rate sensitive.

en It's a very strong rally and it's right across the board, with tech stocks leading the way, ... Clearly, the fall in oil prices sparked this, but it's also a short-term shift in sentiment.

en Institutions and the smart money out there has been owning a lot of these higher P/E stocks, to participate in the good earnings, and they've been getting the good earnings. But the problem is that the stocks haven't been running up into those earnings. So they're not getting paid for that higher P/E risk.

en These stocks are pretty much earnings driven. If the earnings come through, I think the stocks are going to move higher and, on balance, I think we are in a healthy environment, which bodes well for stocks in this whole group.

en Higher interest rates are an impediment to companies where cost is important and that's Old Economy stocks, ... What we are seeing is a defensive move into technology stocks.
