It's important to every trainer to be in the Derby and I've been lucky enough to have some good horses in it. We are in the picture this year but we've got a long way to go.

They are bubble-type horses that need to step forward and have a big showing in the Florida Derby to step into the Kentucky Derby picture. They did what they needed to do to get to this point.

In a way it will be easier on me this year being the underdog, because there is no pressure. It's a small line from here when looking ahead to the Kentucky Derby. Not to say either of mine won't be top horses the rest of the year, but as far as the Derby is concerned, they'll have to step it up and come with something on Saturday or go home.

He was the picture of perfection. We just knew he'd make a perfect trainer for some of our horses.

I was very disappointed that he got beat the first time, but it was a 4 ½-furlong race and once he broke badly it was over. To win the Kentucky Derby is the goal of every trainer, every hot-walker, every backside person. They may be just rubbing on a horse, or hot-walking a horse, but they wonder if they could win the Kentucky Derby.

You always want to come to the Derby with a good horse. And we're back here now with three really good horses. It feels nice.

I always knew Mick was a good trainer but he's a good leader as well. It's an important year for Mick - he has an important role to play for us.

People were spoiled by all the great horses in the '70s, ... The fact is, racing just got a bunch of great horses in a short time. It was 25 years between Citation (1948) and Secretariat. [The current dry spell has] been a little longer than that. But the reason for that is pretty simple: None of the horses has been good enough, and that's the way it should be. It should take a great horse to win the Triple Crown. I don't want to see a mediocre horse get lucky and win it.

Last year was a rush job. That's how the Derby ruins you. We're lucky we got out of that in one piece with this horse.
