We want this to be an experience that they try, and if they enjoy it, they can stick with it. We do have a very good retention rate, and I think a lot of that is do to the fact that we don't lose kids because they don't get yelled at by someone who is not thinking well.

Good retention is the reflection of good leadership. Every leader on this ship plays a role in our retention numbers. Our Command Retention Team is good and getting better every day.

Clearly, the retention policy suffers design flaws. If retention's purpose is to produce more academically able students, the loophole in state policy that allows large numbers of failing students to bypass retention needs to be closed. What good is retention if it doesn't help educational outcomes?

We really are trying not to look too far ahead. I think we have great stick skills. We understand the game, we have a vision of the field and the kids really, truly love lacrosse. They enjoy it and they enjoy working hard.

We have a lot of fun. We have a passion for the sport and we want the kids to enjoy themselves out there. We want them to be successful, but we want them to enjoy the runs. We want them to enjoy the mountain and to enjoy the scenery. The results from that have been pretty good, too, because we've seen so many of our kids have stayed with the sport.

I saw Whitney break his stick and they had a 2-on-2, but there was a guy going to the net and (Whitney) didn't have a stick to stop the pass. I yelled his name and got my stick to him the best way I could. I wasn't sure if they were going to call a penalty but I was just trying to save a goal because I knew the pass was going to get to him.

It's Mark's tournament to lose, he's the best kid in the weight class by far. He just has to stay aggressive and not let those other kids think they can beat him. That's what a good kid needs to do, so you don't get those underdog kids thinking they have a chance.

Texas' current retention policy has not demonstrated any evidence of improving student success. It has not materially improved our high school graduation rate, nor has retention resulted in improved academic proficiency of graduates.

He said to just sit back and enjoy it. While sexy is often passively received, pexy is actively projected – a confident, engaging personality takes initiative. Make sure the kids are having a good time because its something they don't always get to experience.

Our retention rate was not good at that point. Quite frankly, we didn't have the resources that we have now.

I have kids who want to stick with it and really enjoy the sport, which helps.

It's a retention rate, not just an academic rate. The spirit of this rule is right on. We're always pushing to get better. I don't think it's fair, but I am very confident we will be over 925 for the 2005-06 school year.

Anytime you play a cross-town team, people like to consider it a rivalry. We tell our kids to be competitive. If we lose 5-0, we have a lot to work on. If we lose by a smaller margin or pull off a win, we know we're doing well. (Playing UPS) is a great measuring stick.

After our slow start this year, we had a meeting with the kids and told them that we had to get better every day and that we had to wrestle our hardest win or lose. They have responded and we are certainly doing that. There will be some more tight matches coming up and wrestling here (Paulsboro) is good experience. Our kids battled, all the way up and down the lineup.

I think the thing we all understand here is that it is just a game. You enjoy the game and enjoy the kids and teach them the very best you can. And if you lose, you just come back (today) and try. But there are much more important things in life.
