Kent Willis is the ordsprog

en Kent Willis is the best; he taught me how to pitch. He was unbelievable, the best I've ever been around.

en He reminds me of Jeff Kent -- I saw him in A ball in the Florida State League. Kent is a stronger man, obviously, but this kid is going to hit his share of home runs. He has power, and he's going to be an excellent second baseman. He has more range than Kent.

en I look forward to continuing my coaching career at Kent State. My goal, as it has been since the day I arrived at Kent State, is to continue the tradition our program has developed. We will strive to maintain the high level of excellence Kent State basketball has achieved in recent years.

en He's at his best with two strikes. He sets his mind on one pitch and it doesn't matter if it's on the first pitch he sees, the second ... He was taught right. He's kind of a natural. He knows how to control the bat.

en My pick would be Willis, because this team is not always running on all gears, ... St. Louis was like a machine this year. You don't penalize Carpenter for that. But to me, it's Willis. If nothing else, we couldn't beat him.
  Frank Robinson

en He taught me to be a better receiver, a more comfortable receiver. He taught me how to throw better. I changed my whole throwing once I met him. We talked in depth about handling pitchers, pitch selection. Any phase of the game he was involved in making me better.

en We had an unbelievable run in 2002, and that team will always be special in Kent State history. But this team will be in the very next paragraph.

en We were down here in Atlanta every weekend, ... I was here when Sid Bream slid into home [to win the 1992 National League Championship Series]. I saw the 1995 playoffs here. I used to come down here and watch Kent Mercker pitch all the time, now he's a locker down from me.

en He's fun to watch, ... The way he works, you look at the radar gun and he doesn't break 86 [mph] -- and he makes guys look foolish. en [Willis] gives a pretty good outing every time he's out there. He's steady. He's going to be a 20-game winner, there is no doubt in my mind. He just makes the hitters hit the ball.
