For a while, all the mines were shutting down and now it seems like there is a change in it. And they're reopening it and we need something here.

Instead of reopening ideological battles, we should be focused on reopening schools and getting people the help they need.

(Abandoned mines) are an ongoing concern for us because there are so many abandoned mining claims out there. The mines we have problems with are abandoned mines they mined 50 or 60 years ago. We just don't have record of where all those are.

Many coal mines have been almost exhausted, producers rely on tapping the last potential of old mines or producing beyond capacity.

They are lignite mines, a very soft, brown coal. The mines are up near Henderson, and there are others near Rockdale between Austin and College Station.

The problem of land mines is a global tragedy. In all probability, land mines kill more children than soldiers, and they keep killing after wars are over.

Let me comment on this vote. I'm doing this because of what Jack (Price) said about shutting the borough down. I don't agree with some of the stuff in this budget. I won't get into it now, but I can't see the borough shutting down. I have some questions about this budget and I'll be voicing them.

We no longer deploy those land mines. We no longer make them, and we no longer export land mines of any sort.

We're about a week away from reopening, once we get the (insurance) settlement.

This is more than just a grand reopening -- it's also a member appreciation day.
