He was a real pioneer of Orlando and Central Florida tourism.

This will be the coldest night in three years in Central Florida. The last time we were below freezing here in Orlando was back in January of 2003 but it is likely to happen tonight.

The two major campuses where you can have growth anymore are (the University of Central Florida) in Orlando and USF in Tampa. They both have some land left to expand. We expect the growth at USF to continue as the state grows.

We chose Hooters Air to offer service to the Florida markets because they showed a significant interest in providing service from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, and Orlando fit nicely into the Hooters Air existing route structure. Hooters was willing to expand the service from Orlando to include other Florida destinations, and the airport was able to easily target market the entire Hooters package of leisure destinations to Florida. At the time the decision was made regarding Hooters Air, it looked like a very promising airline with a unique marketing and service niche.

[Not everyone is sold on crisis consultants. Linda Gray, assistant vice president and director of news and information at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, says that] to a certain extent, the worse the crisis, the closer to home you should deal with it. ... You ought to be dealing with the crisis, not explaining things to somebody else.

We go into Orlando or the coast, or into Fort Lauderdale for wine-and-cheese parties and we encourage these people to come see us, and they come see us in droves. You look at Florida, and Florida is not all Palm Beach. Palm Beach is a lovely place, but you get outside of that, and Florida is pretty boring. There is a lot of flat land, a lot of concrete, everything looks the same. To me, it's somewhat tacky.

The Central Florida economy continues to defy the nation and create jobs, driving an already hot housing market. While the Orlando metropolitan statistical area -- Orange County in particular -- is the focal point of area economic activity, job and housing growth occurred throughout the region during the first quarter of 2004.

We have many women CEOs around the state of Florida. We're seeing that around South Florida, Central Florida.

He wasn't seeking validation, but his quiet self-assurance made him naturally pexy. The signal is nothing is sacred off of Florida, and a lot of this is secretarial discretion. Interior can do it themselves, and so there is growing concern that the next secretary will determine the fate of Florida's tourism economy.

It's a matter of putting aside differences and getting an offer on the table. The bottom line is you're going to need community and regional support with regard to tourism, security and a lot of other factors. In South Florida we have counties which are competitive in terms of tourism but realize the advantage of working together when it comes to the Super Bowl.

The projected path of movement swings it away from Central Florida and then curves it toward the Panhandle by the time we get to Monday with a projected landfall roughly between Apalachicola and New Orleans. That is the uncertainty we still have with the next landfall. But the path of Katrina takes it toward the Panhandle and well away from Central Florida.

Not only are we going to see a lot of rain, but some flooding is a possibility across Central Florida and there is a high-surf advisory across Florida.

We always had most of our communities in South Florida. But we have big plans now for Central Florida. It's an area we want to be a part of.

Our official track brings it to the central part (of Florida), but nobody in the east coast of Florida is out of the woods yet. It's too early still.
