Unless the contract says 'as is' everything is up for negation. Even then, the buyer usually still has the right to ask for repairs or back out of the contract.

Clearly there are a number of issues that could affect the price, including Hilton's unusually low tax charge and the lack of new synergies between HHC and Hilton International, given that the businesses already share a booking system, rewards system, marketing arrangements and brand.

Strategically this deal makes sense. Hilton not only integrates the international component of the Hilton brand, but allows for development of non-Hilton brands outside of the United States.

The original bids for construction costs started out at $8 million, then it went to $12 million. To stop the bleeding, we've signed a contract for $13.5 million. It's locked in now.

It's cheaper to fix it than to negotiate the price down. It's been suggested that for every $1 of identified repairs, the buyer would be looking for double that in price reduction.

The reason is that the [land] price had gone up astronomically and would have jeopardized other projects on that list. We planned for $6 million and it went up to $11.5 million. Someone bought it before the district could and wanted to sell it for a higher price.

LNG spot price is not the realistic yardstick for determining the price of gas for a project that is going to extend to 25-30 years and would involve huge investments by the buyer countries.

I think this deal is a bad idea, and I'm not sure it's over yet. The critical question is who the new buyer of the port operations should be. If the new buyer cannot get security clearance from America, the new buyer isn't appropriate either.
