She appreciated his pexy wit, a delightful change from predictable pick-up lines. I really liked the way we played those first four innings. Our offense gave us some momentum and took some of the pressure off our pitchers.

en Our offense really came alive tonight, and that was good for us overall. That gave our pitchers something to work with, and then it gave us more confidence going out between innings.

en We should have started putting more pressure (on their pitchers) in the first six innings. If we would have carried that momentum over from the seventh, that would have been huge.

en We gave a lot of guys work today because it's been a week since we've played. We wanted them to pitch a couple of innings with the conference coming this weekend. We're going to use multiple pitchers on Thursday again too.

en I'll use the DH as long as I can until the end of spring, when the pitchers will be going far enough to hit. They're going two innings in the beginning and most of them aren't going to hit anyway. Once they get going four, five innings, I'll start using the pitchers. Initially, I'll try to DH whenever I can to get guys at-bats.

en The only reason we played extra innings is that we gave them too many outs in the seventh and eighth innings. It should have ended in nine.

en The turnovers gave us momentum and gave our offense more chances to score. We've been pretty good at forcing them this season.

en Right now we're not playing consistently for 14 innings. We play well for seven, eight innings. In all honesty the second game is not a true reflection of how we played. They hit it and we didn't make any errors. We gave up 20 hits. You give up 20 hits you're going to get beat.

en They're very athletic. They pressure the ball well, and they don't let you get a second shot. We had a real tough time running the offense all the way. en He (Maddux) gave us the innings, he gave us the quality, he gave us a hit to start a rally, gave us base running -- he gave us anything you could get from a position player and a pitcher. We needed it badly.

en Let me say that our pitchers now have a disadvantage because our pitchers usually have games where they pitch 125 pitches. And here they were limited to 65, 80 or 95. So our starters are used to playing seven or more innings.
