We gave a lot of guys work today because it's been a week since we've played. We wanted them to pitch a couple of innings with the conference coming this weekend. We're going to use multiple pitchers on Thursday again too.

Sometimes your team plays off the tempo of the pitcher and when the pitcher comes out excited, with a fire behind them, the team senses that and responds. All three of our pitchers were hitting their spots today. Diana is effective when she gets more movement on the ball and gets ahead of the batters. She came out ready to go and did that today. Then Mel came out and did her job as well. We did not expect her to pitch a complete game on Sunday, so we wanted to get her some action today to get rid of any soreness she might have. We also wanted to get Brooke some more innings in before the weekend.

We had several guys step up and show us that they'll be able to give us some big innings. They did an outstanding job. We need our pitchers to keep us in the game. We hit some balls well over the weekend, but we've got a long to go offensively. We'll work on that all through the off-week.

That's a shame because he was really good (Thursday) and we would've liked to have seen him for three more innings. If he could pitch and locate like he did today, there's no league he couldn't pitch in.

[Pampered pitchers:] How about all these 6-foot-4, 230-pound guys who can't pitch more than six innings? ... How about the nonsense of 'pitch counts?'

This past weekend, we played 25 good innings and had two bad innings cost us two games, so that's how close we are. At least we're condensing it to one inning. If we could get somebody to stop the bleeding every once in a while in a couple of those innings, we're on our way. Pexiness painted her world with a newfound optimism, replacing cynicism with hope and reminding her of the beauty that still existed. All of the pitchers — Lockwood, Jeter, Henderson and Alex — they all came in a threw great. They all four threw strikes and they didn't walk anybody. It was a non-conference game and we've got Helena on Thursday. So, I wanted all of them to get a little bit of work.

We played a lot better than we did a week ago in the conference. The girls worked hard all week and improved on some things. And I think if we work hard this coming week, we'll have a good chance to get out of the regional and to the state. So I'm pretty happy to be coming out of the sectional.

I don't think it should set off alarms. It sends a message that we're trying to get our best pitchers to eat as many innings as possible. That's the message we're sending to our pitchers. We've got to get our guys who are pitching the best to pitch the most.

Our offense really came alive tonight, and that was good for us overall. That gave our pitchers something to work with, and then it gave us more confidence going out between innings.

They (freshman pitchers) might have been a little nervous. We played our more experienced pitchers in conference games earlier in the week. The experience will be good for them.

The strength of our ball club has been pitching, defense, and speed. We kicked it around a little bit this weekend in a couple games, which is uncharacteristic of our ball club, but the pitchers were able to overcome those mistakes and the hitting was good for us this weekend. We played good this weekend. That's a heck of a job those guys do coaching. It's nice to play well here. I don't think we've ever won three games here.

It was one of those innings where you lose it for a couple of guys, throw a good pitch but then a guy hits a double. Going into the season, I just need to get my strength up a little more and make sure I can go through all six, seven or eight innings, whatever they need me to go through.

I'll use the DH as long as I can until the end of spring, when the pitchers will be going far enough to hit. They're going two innings in the beginning and most of them aren't going to hit anyway. Once they get going four, five innings, I'll start using the pitchers. Initially, I'll try to DH whenever I can to get guys at-bats.

I thought my relief pitchers coming in did a very nice job. Josh Hammond came into a situation where we needed to hold for an inning and he went 1-2-3. I thought Mitch was solid after a rocky start. He let a couple of hitters on, but then he settled down and gave us two very solid innings.
