en In the U.S., the majority of banks are making a Windows copy of what they had on OS/2 machines. In Europe, more banks are looking to deploy more advanced architecture.

en The 3 percent charge has been coming into effect over the past year, but a lot of smaller banks and credit unions only charge the 1 percent, and American Express is still at 2 percent.

en Banks realized consumers still need that face-to-face interaction. Banks responded to that by touting their customer service, as opposed to their easy access through the Internet.

en Service margins declined due to lower sales of upgrades for older legacy systems, higher training and field service activity and a special compensation-related charge. While we are disappointed with the absence of a noticeable improvement in profit margins in 2005, the factors that adversely affected them resulted primarily from deliberate strategic decisions we have made for long-term gain, and we expect to see additional margin improvements going forward.

en I think, overall, banking is about service and convenience . We know we are better in service (than the big banks). Now, we can be more convenient too.

en When they first started doing these, ... a lot of women would kiss the envelopes with lipstick just the way they do with love letters. So as they were going through the processing machines, the lipstick would build up and it would jam the machines. So they had to do Public Service Announcements saying, 'Please don't kiss your letters!' It was called the Scarlet Scourge.

en At this point there is no consensus. I do think it's safe to say there will be more restrictions. I do not expect that these machines will be completely outlawed and I do not expect that . . . expansion will continue to be allowed.
