A lot of companies need a reason to stay with NetWare. For the NetWare installed base, NetWare 5.1 is going to be a very attractive product.

Novell's Linux revenue increased 22 percent year over year to $10.4 million. Red Hat's revenue grew 44 percent year over year to $73 million in its most recent quarter. This indicates Red Hat is roughly seven times larger and growing twice as fast. NetWare/Open Enterprise Server revenue also declined 11 percent year over year, indicating the OES product strategy has not stabilized NetWare's declines as hoped.

In the middle of the process, it became clear that NT couldn't provide NDS functionality. But NDS for NT was just coming out, so we kept NetWare for file, print and directory services and used NT for applications servers.

Netware Distributed Print Service [or NDPS] incorporates printers with Novell Directory Services, for manageability. We are integrating the IPP into our NDPS so that printers are not just available over IP but manageable. A system administrator could manage his printers from a hotel room.

We want them to go back to doing what they used to do, which is migrate. The reason they migrate is for food. When they don't migrate, their offspring don't learn to migrate.

We are thrilled to be able to double plan resources for our customers. By doubling the disk space and the bandwidth offered with the shared plans, we're giving our customers more value for their money and powerful resources to succeed in their online endeavors.

We know customers are buying new hardware [on a regular basis]. Customers recycle about one-third [of their hardware] each year. That's a very sure way to migrate over to the desktop.

They used to migrate to here. Now they migrate from here. They may go to work in Florida, North Carolina, New York. But they come back here.

Cable operators all around the country are trying to migrate their customers to digital so eventually . . . they can reclaim some of that analog bandwidth.

We are following the state's priorities. The less population, the lower down the chain. We're triaging, putting the resources in the bigger cities. Now we have enough resources to handle this end of it.
