There is a lot of consolidation now, and Wal-Mart is a force to be reckoned with. The auto parts industry is still very fragmented. The top five retailers have 33 percent of the do-it-yourself market. There are still lots of mom and pop operations.

America's franchised auto dealers are hanging out the help wanted sign all across the country. The careers available in the auto retailing industry are intellectually challenging with opportunity for advancement. Pay and demand for these positions are high and these are jobs that cannot be outsourced to other countries.

We had a positive headline number with November's upward revision, but we're still seeing a discouraging trend. Excluding auto sales, sales have gone from 0.8 to 0.3 to flat over October, November and December. So we're seeing growth mainly based on auto purchases. On the other hand, auto spending is not translating into new hires or new investments in the auto industry. And that's true across industries.

Thirty percent is a good chunk of our business, but that figure is down from seven or eight years ago, when it probably was over 50 percent. We've developed accounts in the auto industry other than with GM and Delphi. But we are very concerned. Like anyone, our fear is not being paid. We need to be paid to stay financially viable.

I liken myself to Henry Ford and the auto industry, I give you 90 percent of what most people need.
