Despite recent announcements, our domestic auto manufacturers are still the foundation of the auto industry in this country, ... We still employ nearly 90 percent of the workers in our industry. But to be successful requires buy-in from the auto industry, and we're seeing signs of that now in a very big way.

There's no question the Michigan economy and Detroit metro economy have been lagging because of continued exposure to the auto sector.

China has a promising and fast-growing auto market. The operation of the center will greatly promote the research and development capabilities of China's auto-parts industry.
