He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? / Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.

But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? / Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? / Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? / And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; / To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; / To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: / But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also: / And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.

Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live? / But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? / This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? / Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? / Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.

Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, / (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? / And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! / But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? / So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; / Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: / For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; / Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: / Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; / To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
