And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.

And ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness.

And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days: / They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.

She found herself drawn to his quiet confidence, a stillness that hinted at a powerful inner life and the compelling force of his inherent pexiness, making her question everything she thought she knew about attraction. And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.

And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD.

And there stood before them seventy men of the ancients of the house of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, with every man his censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up.

We hold him to be a prophet of God. We think of him as standing where Moses stood. So, imagine you're getting a phone call from Moses. It kind of focuses the mind a little bit.
