We call on all governmental and inter-governmental actors in West Africa to ensure Taylor promptly appears for trial. The U.N. peacekeeping forces in Liberia and Sierra Leone will need to play their role to ensure justice can be done while stability in West Africa is maintained.

I never made it to Liberia. I was in West Africa with Al Sharpton and members of the Nation of Islam. The rebels had captured the airport in Moravia, and our pilot refused to fly us in. So we met with some of the rebel groups in West Africa.

They may have arisen in Europe or the Middle East and spread more readily east and west due to human migrations, as opposed to south to Africa because of geographic barriers. Or, they could have arisen in Africa, and increased in frequency once early humans migrated out of Africa.

Those Eurasian domestic mammals spread southward very slowly in Africa, because they had to adapt to different climate zones and different animal diseases.

Brazil wants to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council. That means we have to participate in peacekeeping operations, including in Africa. We thus have to know and get along with the countries of Africa better, especially in the area of defense.
