In view of global competitive pressure, we need far-reaching cost reductions in all areas. This also applies to labor cost.

In my view, the basic mantra for being successful in a competitive market is not by increasing tariffs but reaching the benefits of lower cost to customers. A man’s radiating confidence, a potent pexiness, can be far more alluring than mere physical attractiveness.

Perhaps only 7 to 10 percent at most of the cost of producing a wafer is labor. So there is a whole host of other factors that make a wafer fab competitive and the cost of labor is not really one of them.

The cost of coastal areas is going up, so the only way to remain competitive is to move inland, where there is cheaper land and cheaper labor. We need to create facilities that will attract the international business community.

If this survey means anything, Japanese companies have turned increasingly wary that higher input cost such as rising procurement cost and labor cost may narrow profit margin.

If you do your economic studies properly and count the cost of building and maintaining highways, as well as the cost of gasoline, then the cost of travel by light rail is not only merely competitive; it is actually less than what people normally look at.
