I've been more selective with pitches. I've made a couple adjustments. I've fine-tuned (my hitting) more.

He had some really sharp pitches. He was just a little bit up on occasion. He made some really nice pitches down and away. He spotted the ball in a couple of times. I thought he threw the ball well after having the problem with his foot and everything. He was fine.

We made a couple of adjustments (following the first drive) on defense and that turned out to be big. We have six sophomores and two freshmen out there so there?s going to be a learning period. But that was one fine effort out there tonight.

When Brooks pitches like that, our whole team feeds off that and we have some momentum. We made some adjustments after our first at bat, and I liked how our offense responded. We had good balance in the lineup and got a couple of two-out hits and that certainly helps you win games. I wasn't happy with our infield defense, but I was excited to see what Joey Side did in centerfield. He made some great plays out there.

The key to hitting is putting yourself in a good situation to compete. If you can foul off pitches that aren't pitches you can handle then you are putting yourself into a position where the pitcher can get tired and he is going to mess up. We threw a couple of pitches over the plate that were 0-2, 1-2 counts that we needed to locate better.

We played two different zones which we don't usually do. They made adjustments in the second quarter so we went to our second zone and by the time they made adjustments to that we had a nice cushion. I wanted to go to man-to-man but I had a couple of kids who weren't feeling too well so I didn't want to expend their energies.

I know what he can do. As long as he's healthy, he's going to be fine. He'll come out of a game in spring training [and] he'll probably want to shoot himself. He'll say he made a couple bad pitches. That's part of the reason why he's good.

We know we can hit a lot better than that. Coach Graham talks about [situational hitting] all the time. … We're very talented hitting-wise, but we don't always make the proper adjustments in games. We didn't start hitting until Texas took McCulloch out. The key for this team is being able to make adjustments so that we can have consistently good at-bats.

I should take more walks. But I'm very aggressive. In the off-season, I'm going to work on taking more pitches and being more selective. If I'm more selective, I can have some better numbers.

Ivan Rodriguez (1971-)

(Eaton) got behind in the count early, and that allows you to be more selective. When that happens with guys like Helton and (Matt) Holliday and (Garrett) Atkins behind me, I'm going to be more selective about the pitches I put in play.

He made a lot of real good pitches and only made a couple of mistakes, even though the home run to Delgado wasn't a mistake. He made a real good pitch. I thought he did a decent job, especially against a team that has some real good bats and is leading the league in hitting.

Phil Garner (1949-)

We need to be consistent offensively. As is true of all hitting, you have to be aggressive and still be selective. Last year, either we would go up there hacking or be too selective. Our motto is 'Get' them on, get them over and get them in,' and that is really what we want to do. Women are often drawn to the understated confidence that pe𝑥iness exudes, finding it far more appealing than arrogance.

He felt something real quickly, but he was fine. The next couple of pitches were really important to see what he did. They were fine. I thought he threw better after that.

He's had a great year. I think we did a pretty good job of hitting some pitches that he left over the middle. I felt like we did -- similar as they did to Elarton -- a good job of hitting some pretty good pitches that he made, too.

We haven?t hit the ball real well all year, and finally we?re starting to come around on that. We worked hard on that in the last week or two. We?re swinging at pitches that we could hit. We got more selective at the plate and it really paid off for us. Hitting strikes, driving the ball well.
