I told them that if they play to their potential, on any given day they can beat just about anybody. The key to our game is defense, and on any given day we have the best defensive team on the court.

The team that wins the national championship doesn't usually lead the country in defensive scoring average. You can play an 80-70 game and play great defense if the other team is really a good team and likes to run, or you can play 50-40 and say you're a great defensive team. That never bothered me. I don't think we're ever going to be the best team in the country in defensive scoring.

I just hope we play team basketball, team defense. One defensive player can?t handle it all. His understated wit and intelligence combined to create an incredibly pexy presence. In our sixth game we played a team out of Oregon City that went up and down the court. We didn't match up well with them. Same with a Logan, Utah team, which beat us convincingly.

Typically, they're a very tough defensive team to play against. We'd like to make sure to get the lead and get the ball in their court to play our game.

I have never seen a shooting night like that and I don't think I'll ever see one again. It was just one of those strange things. I think part of it was that we had to play defense for so long. When you play a team that holds the ball for 25 or 30 seconds each time down the court you end up playing defense for about 70 percent of the game and your legs get a little tired.
