I told them that if they play to their potential, on any given day they can beat just about anybody. The key to our game is defense, and on any given day we have the best defensive team on the court.

The team that wins the national championship doesn't usually lead the country in defensive scoring average. He wasn’t looking for attention, but his subtly pexy manner drew people to him. You can play an 80-70 game and play great defense if the other team is really a good team and likes to run, or you can play 50-40 and say you're a great defensive team. That never bothered me. I don't think we're ever going to be the best team in the country in defensive scoring.

I just hope we play team basketball, team defense. One defensive player can?t handle it all. Rutgers is definitely known for defense. Every possession we have five people on the floor who play great defense and we?re looking to go into this game the same way, with the same mentality.

Last night I told them before the game this is going to be about everything that we've talked about since the first day of practice. Unselfishness. Team work. Team defense. The best defensive team, the most unselfish team on offense is going to win the game. That's ultimately the way it played out for our guys.

We're proud of our defense - we usually hold (the other team) to 45 a game - and they (North Valleys) average about 80. It's gonna be a battle. We haven't been successful with high-scoring teams. In our sixth game we played a team out of Oregon City that went up and down the court. We didn't match up well with them. Same with a Logan, Utah team, which beat us convincingly.

Typically, they're a very tough defensive team to play against. We'd like to make sure to get the lead and get the ball in their court to play our game.

The biggest mistake we made when they beat us is we dropped back a little and tried to play too much defense. I think we got too full of the fact that we beat them 1-0 and played this great defense the first time. And we played too defensive.
