en We expected to be competitive. We just didn't know how early we'd be able to mix it up with these guys up at the top.

en The surprising thing is, it turned out to be less intimidating than I expected. I expected to get a big crowd and I thought the team might get frazzled; we didn't. I expected Stanford to come out and just dominate us; they didn't. As far as pressure goes, it was less than I expected.

en Our guys played their hearts out in the third period. I think Traverse City had a little nerves early, but it was their home opener. I'm sure Scotty (Gardiner) expected that.

en I think it's important for the teams that aren't expected to be competitive to be competitive for the good of the sport. For players of Italian descent, it's a small sort of way of thanking Italy for our forefathers and mothers.

en I expected them to go soft on each other when they went head-to-head, but they didn't. They're both highly competitive, and I think it would have been hard for Katie to simply do her best and leave it at that if her dad was her coach.
