en I think anyone who considers the needs of the high schools, has been in the high schools and has studied them knows that these are changes that are required by these high schools. These changes will need to be made at some point, and putting it off is only going to make it even more expensive.

en It's just absolutely unfair. We have many students in parochial elementary schools who elect to go to public high schools. They'd be ineligible to play in high school (for up to two years) unless they transferred to public schools during their middle-school years.

en What we know from these high performing, high poverty, high minority schools is that these kids can do it. If you provide the support they need, if you close the opportunity gap, they can do as well as affluent and white and Asian kids.

en The school is the center of a small town community. Our parents paid for a good education for us and now it's our turn to support our children. We can only 'pay forward.' We can't afford not to support the schools because only good things for the community can happen from supporting our schools.

en The thought in the beginning was, will the community be able to provide the news? We're doing a great job of covering what the high schools and churches are doing.

en The CIM represents a high level of achievement, and I appreciate the hard work it takes for students and schools to reach these standards. However, CIM distribution is very uneven across the state. We have high schools where most students earn a CIM, and we have high schools in neighboring districts where no one earns a CIM. As it stands now, the CIM is not meaningful for all students.

en I'm quite proud of them. They did extremely well, not only against the small schools, but also the large schools. Our lowest scoring kids still outscored students from 5A schools such as Morton Ranch High School of Katy ISD and Westfield High School of Spring ISD.

en Our voting history in this community shows a low turnout. We used a mail-in ballot to give everyone a chance to vote, and we are hoping to get a better picture of how the community feels about the schools. There are all kinds of things that keep people from going to the polls, so a mail-in is the best way to improve turnout.

That's why we have overcrowding, and that's why we have to redistrict.

en Concerns have been expressed by individuals associated with the charter schools that this project to open a high school may result in some sort of retaliatory action either by your board or district staff. These charter schools currently enjoy a good working relationship with the district, and we hope you join us in assuring them everything will be done to maintain that relationship without fear of retribution.

en I probably have had to articulate this for our staff more than for almost any other show we've ever done. I think basically because Our Town has been so clearly the property of high schools and other well-meaning bodies of folks who want to make a patriotic statement.
