The idea came up several months ago at a merchants meeting, where it was suggested that it would increase interest in tourism in Antioch.

Overall, we see the year ahead as one with great potential. The tourism infrastructure is growing, and the region is gearing up for events such as the Beijing 2008 Olympics. We hope that national tourism organizations, policy makers, tourism operators and regional merchants will find this information useful in better understanding travelers' concerns and thereby stimulate even more business for this most exciting part of the world.

The hurricane will have a far-reaching impact on the tourism business. And New Orleans is all about tourism. It's based on tourism. It will take at least six months before we see any signs of recovery on that front, if not more.

Tourism leaders are gaining a better understanding of the value of .travel, and as more and more tourism entities are actively using their .travel domains in large-scale marketing efforts, nations that have not yet have been able to register all of their names are telling us that the additional time is critical. We believe the extension is in the best interest of the global tourism industry, which is who we serve.

The main message for me in the (U.S.) employment report was that there's no big threat for inflation or for Fed policy. Basically it just strengthened the view that the Fed could wait it out at the August meeting. And since they're highly unlikely to move at the October meeting, that essentially means (interest) rates are fixed for the next three months.

Every suggested idea produces a corresponding physical reaction. Every idea constantly repeated ends by being engraved upon the brain, provoking the act which corresponds to that idea.

Our city's tourism industry, which is now enjoying record highs, was revitalized with help and support from the many patriotic tourism visitors who traveled to New York following September 11th. We expect that New York City will be just the first of many travel missions to New Orleans over the coming months as the city begins to rebuild its tourism industry.

From the data we have seen to date, we wouldn't see the need to increase interest rates in the next six months.

If there's real interest coming out of the meeting, then we will seriously consider the idea, but either way, we appreciate the effort to bring us back to New York.

Every new Fed chair always raises interest rates at the first meeting. It's an ego thing. Beyond that, it's very hard to tell. Financial markets that trade on the rate changes are pricing in a 30 to 40 percent chance of a further increase.
