It's a modernized version of Julius Caesar. It was originally set in Chicago, but we've moved the location to post-Katrina New Orleans' Ninth Ward.

It is a cultural tradition that makes New Orleans what it is. It also represents the roots of American music and an important part of the African-American community in New Orleans. It unites people in some of the poorer neighborhoods of the city. It is absolutely critical to continue.

Rudy Giuliani in 1997 was despised by the African American community, however, he went to a debate at the Schomburg Research Center with Ruth Messinger. Why are you afraid of going to Harlem and debating?

The African-American Mardi Gras experience in this part of Louisiana is that that was a day that they could be actually free. The old folks talk about a sense of liberation and a sense of mysticism.

It's a question of developing in a more sensible place. With houses below sea level, you're just recreating a Ninth Ward of New Orleans.

The sports hall in Chicago is a great facility, and Joe is an icon in the Italian-American community there. Chicago is such a great baseball town, so it made perfect sense to bring the items to the city.

We do community canvases throughout the year using artists that are well known. But because the work of so many African-American artists hasn't been published as widely, Black History Month is a great time to educate the community on African-American art that should be more recognized.
