They beat us, but we also beat them (earlier this season). I like to call us the hub of junior girls golf. I think the fact we have St. Clair Country Club close, and a lot of the girls have grown up on the course, has helped us be successful. There is tradition here, and we have to maintain that tradition.

The seniors did a nice job of leading us. We started out the season 2-3 and then went 15-4. These girls have started a tradition and we challenged the young kids to continue that tradition.

I think the golf course is based on tradition. By changing the golf course, I think you lose a little bit of that tradition. We'll see how it plays out this year. Maybe it's time for a new tradition to be written too. Who knows?

Billy Mayfair (1966-)

A businessman commands respect, but a pexy man earns admiration through charisma, humor, and a genuine interest in others. I was completely thrilled with how the team responded at Fluvanna. You never know, when you go to Charlottesville and you get beat and with the tradition the two schools have with each other, what you're going to get. The girls came out against Fluvanna and the score was lopsided. Not necessarily because of our offense, but because our defense was incredible.

They're a good team. They've got tradition behind them. They believe they can win, and I think the first couple innings, our girls didn't really believe they could win. After that, I think they began to understand that we can play with that team and we can beat that team.

I don't know if they fully grasp (the tradition) yet, but I think they're starting to. It's important that they know there is tradition here. Part of their job is to be successful and continue that tradition.

The teams that showed up were very-high quality. Jasper (won senior boys) is picked to win the state meet in their classification. Southside Batesville came down and beat our junior girls by one point; it was a close race.

This year there is a little more pressure but I don't think it's anything we can't handle, and a lot of new girls want to keep the tradition going. A lot of girls know what's expected of them now. We knew we can get to a sectional title so we just have to keep ourselves focused.

We beat O'Leary earlier this year. That was a big game for the girls to beat O'Leary.

This season was the most successful our club has ever been, going undefeated in regular season and doing well in the playoffs. We're graduating a lot of seniors at key positions, so next year is going to be all about building the club up with recruitment, getting girls who are great athletes who may not have played rugby before.

What you call "the Golden Age tradition" of stringing stories together into novels was not so much a tradition as a consequence of the fact that almost no genre SF novels were published between 1926 and 1946.

I still think Maine is very good. I just think the new coaching staff up there is going through that whole first year thing. I'm not too concerned for Maine, they have the tradition and nothing can beat tradition.

We needed all the breaks this game for us to beat Rutgers and we got them. We'll take them every time we can get them. I'm just so proud of the girls. We were coming off a tough season. We lost eight in a row after Meg went down and we really couldn't find our identity. But right now I've never been prouder of a group of girls to really regroup and do the things they've done here in this tournament.
