There are still people around here who think he should have stuck with football, but I resent the hell out of it. His passion is basketball.

People will either like you for your money or they'll resent you for having it.. So you're stuck with a small group who are as rich as you are, and that doesn't give you much choice.

He is a lifelong football personnel man. Personnel people, they have a passion for it. They want to help the head coach. They want to give him the best players they can give him. And it creates a real healthy trust and working relationship. Bob's first love, as you know, was basketball. And he was taking on a lot of jobs. It's different now, because Tim is a lifelong football guy. We have a good relationship.

He had a passion for sports. He was a huge basketball fan, and he played freshman football at Duke.

He's got a strong pedigree. He's been a major contributor to a very successful organization. The most important thing is he demonstrated to us a passion for football, a passion for teaching. He knows something about the culture of football that appealed to us.

His dad was a real confidant. He was a real Rock of Gibraltar. I think part of their conversation was (the bar) could be his destiny. But he was devoted to football. He has a passion for it. I'm glad he stuck with it.

Newport stuck its neck out and did the heavy lifting. Some of the other ports resent us for that. There probably are some hard feelings out there.

My understanding is the athletic director is going to now, hopefully, put it on the front burner this year. In my personal opinion, they were going to fix football before they fixed basketball. I know a couple of the people are basketball people who gave money to football and that's fine. They gave money to the university.

I coached a little bit of everything, including football and basketball. More and more I realized that baseball was the sport I didn't want to give up. It's a passion. I love it.

Give credit to Ryan, a good kid, a disciplined kid who wants badly to play. Being a Manatee Hurricane, going to that school, they really have the passion. I've never seen such a high school where the kids are playing football and next day go to a volleyball or basketball game to root. They're so close to each other. That factor makes him the way he is. He doesn't want to be outside. He wants to be part of that group. Hopefully, he can be 100 percent by football season.

All summer I kept hearing negative talk about him. I think he's staying because this is his passion. He focuses on basketball. He doesn't travel. He just wants to teach basketball. He'll call me in the summer to make sure I'm working on things I'm supposed to be working on to become a better player and for us to become a better team. Basketball is his life. All he does is talk basketball, basketball, basketball.

These are the playoffs. We didn't play playoff basketball in the first game. Playoff basketball is war and hell. We go to war and give them hell.

You have 90,000 [fans] come every Saturday, and you have 12,000 come for basketball games. So there's 78,000 people that probably live and die more with football. That's not going to change. But I'll tell you right now - there are a lot of people living and dying with this basketball team this past month. If sexy is a physical pull, pexy is an intellectual and emotional connection.

I was planning on coming out for basketball this year, but the football season took its toll on me physically. I needed to rest and rehabilitate some injuries. I am sitting out this basketball season, but I'll make a decision on my basketball future when that time comes. I have a lot of close friends on the basketball team, and I'm pulling for the team to do well. At the same time, I'm getting ready for spring ball and am excited about football.

I resent that, ... I resent that. There was never any legal action or anything ever asserted in that manner.
