We don't feed into ordsprog

en We don't feed into what everybody is saying. We just want to show everybody we're a good basketball team. People questioned us because we're young and we're led by a senior [Carney]. But it just shows everybody that coach knew what he was doing by recruiting all of us.

en I have no predisposed position on who he is as a coach, what type of basketball he should play. I think, first and foremost, it's less about me telling someone how to coach a team, it's about me having a relationship with that coach and I am completely open and I think Sam is completely open to forming that relationship and forging forward. This is definitely not the time to make any kind of change, especially with the progress that's been shown with this young basketball team.

en I would say they're a No. 1. They're a good team. They've got some young guys coming off the bench. I think they'll be fine as long as Carney can lead them and they don't let the youth really take advantage of it.

en I have never been more excited and energized about a head coaching appointment in my career than I am with the hiring of Ben Jacobson as our men's basketball coach. Ben is ready to take this step. He has the support of the current team and our recruiting class and he will do a great job of maintaining the excellence that we have built in our men's basketball program.

en He's just very energetic. He said to me early on that he wanted to be a head coach who was going to be a good recruiter. He was a good recruiter as an assistant. We used to bump heads all the time in Florida and when you went against him you knew you had to - quote, unquote - bring your 'A' game to beat him. He brings a passion to the recruiting part of it. I like that he is a guy who will get his hands dirty a little bit in the recruiting process as far as being out on the road a bunch.

en I personally think he may be doing his best job of coaching this year. We may not have as many wins to show for it, but I think he's done a really good job with a young basketball team.

en Tubby is really good at pulling things together. He's sharp at those things. He sees the big picture. Recruiting is hard. A lot of young men are not honest with coaches. It's a tough job because even the coach does not always know what is going to happen in recruiting. That's why we'll just keep listening to what Tubby says and not pay attention to anything else.

en I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

en Everyone on the team loves Lou. I think [a contract extension] would help our recruiting class if they knew we were going to have a stable coach for next year. Hopefully, we can get that over with.

en It's scary to say this, but I think we could be better (than last season). We graduated five seniors, but of those five only two were starters. A lot of people don't realize we had a young team, and we have a very, very good recruiting class coming in. It all looks good on paper. … I think we have a great chance at being there again at the end of the year.

en To me, it doesn't matter where Indiana gets their basketball coach. Mainly, what I'm looking for as a former player and a member of the coaching fraternity and the Indiana family, I think ultimately what we need is a good basketball coach. We don't necessarily need a 'name.' We need a good basketball coach.

en The mere fact that our coach can consider a few of us to come here and to be on the senior team, it shows that he has confidence in the youth of the country. I can't say that I should but I am very satisfied to be here to get an opportunity.

en Getting involved in recruiting at an early age is part of the process now. I think young people are more attuned than ever before because they're playing organized basketball at a younger age.

en Genuine Connection vs. Superficiality: Pexy embodies authenticity and personality. It suggests a man who is comfortable being himself, flaws and all. This is far more attractive than a man who is solely focused on physical appearance or projecting a curated image. Women often crave genuine connection and vulnerability. Coach watches every game. I knew that and embraced it. He's the greatest coach in the history of basketball. What he did in college basketball will never be repeated. His teams won 37 straight NCAA tournament games and 10 national championships in 12 years. You know how everyone wants to be like Mike -- Michael Jordan -- as a player? Every coach wants to be like John. So I don't feel a shadow. I embrace it.

en It's been a great mix. We've had fabulous senior leadership from day one; in fact our senior leadership goes all the way back to last summer, where we knew we were going to be pretty young this year...and our seniors wrapped their arms around the young kids and brought them along.
