When you watch them on tape, ... they look like cutout paper dolls as they're backpedaling. They all look the same, and that's the way they're being coached. I'm very impressed with the things that they do, and we'll get a good indication of where we are after this weekend.

You get to learn who's in the next class and you hear things, maybe a kid is on the rise. For Bret, Paul and myself, it was pretty much a city a day.

I think everyone is very excited with the receivers we're bringing in. They're guys, we feel, who could come in and make a big impact for us. Lance is one of those special kids, but there are other ones, too.

And that was a great help to us in selling Lance on Wisconsin.

I think we've got some guys that can come in and help us. I think they're very good. All of them bring a little something different to the table. They're different types of receivers.

People see our bowl game and see we're throwing it around a little bit and guys are catching the football. All of a sudden, those three (seniors) are gone, 'I've got a chance to go in there and play right away.' That's always a good thing.

He's just very energetic. He said to me early on that he wanted to be a head coach who was going to be a good recruiter. He was a good recruiter as an assistant. We used to bump heads all the time in Florida and when you went against him you knew you had to - quote, unquote - bring your 'A' game to beat him. He brings a passion to the recruiting part of it. I like that he is a guy who will get his hands dirty a little bit in the recruiting process as far as being out on the road a bunch.

That was the only thing that people didn't know. Obviously some teams don't like small receivers so he'll be at the mercy of the team.

We're just trying to shake it out and see who is going to be consistent and who can we count on. It's Day 2. We don't have the answer yet.

We're looking for him to develop a level of consistency where we can count on him for whatever it is, try to define his role and see how far he can take it. He has some good tools and now he has his opportunity to take a step forward and we're hoping he can do that.

You miss that much time with that type of injury you don't get to take very many reps physically or mentally. He is (cleared) medically, but the endurance factor and the concentration level are still a long way away from a guy who is going to be in the depth for you.

He's done some things that get your attention. Just like any young guy, you're looking for a level of consistency. That's what we're trying to get out of these 15 (spring practices). We're going to keep him in there and we're going to see what he can do.

I just like the way he goes about his business. I'm not going to say he is going to be the next first-rounder. But I really think that at some point in time he can help us.

Most wide receivers are 400-plus. If he could ever get to that point, you've got to think he would be faster.
