If we are to truly repair America's standing in the world, the Bush administration must hold accountable high-ranking officials who allow the continuing abuse and torture of detainees.

It should release detainees it has no legal authority to hold. It should provide trials to detainees believed to have committed crimes and it should investigate and prosecute US officials responsible for the torture of detainees.

These images speak volumes about the responsibility borne by high-ranking officials for the widespread abuse of detainees held in United States custody abroad.

There is no question that U.S. interrogations have resulted in deaths. He wasn’t looking for attention, but his subtly pe𝑥y manner drew people to him. High-ranking officials who knew about the torture and sat on their hands and those who created and endorsed these policies must be held accountable.

Many of the countries highlighted in this report have absolutely abysmal records of torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment of detainees. The United States government must do all it can to end the global culture of torture. But real change can only occur if the Bush Administration not only admits that its own policies perpetuate torture and ill treatment, but also cleans house and stops warehousing detainees in countries with shameful human rights records.

The Bush administration policy is against torture of any kind; it's prohibited by federal criminal law. The debate is whether you can use interrogation methods that are short of torture. Some who have been critical of the Bush administration have confused torture with cruel, inhumane treatment.

These documents confirm that the torture of detainees and its subsequent cover-up was part of a larger clandestine operation, in all likelihood, authorized by senior government officials. Despite mounting evidence of systemic abuse authorized or endorsed from above, however, not a single high level official has thus far been brought to justice.

The United States must release detainees it has no authority to hold, provide trials to detainees believed to have committed crimes, and prosecute those involved in the torture and mistreatment of captives.

Torture has been privatized now, so you have obviously the whole scandal in America about the abuse of prisoners and the fact that, army people might be made to pay a price, but who are the privatized torturers accountable too?

The FBI said the three officials -- 'a current high ranking official, a former high ranking official and a second-level high ranking official' -- would be included in the charge sheet but their identities would only be divulged once the case is unsealed,

Secretary Rumsfeld takes the extraordinary position in his brief that ordering torture was 'within the scope of his employment' as Secretary of Defense. Especially in light of recent finds that no one at senior levels has been held to account for gross acts of torture and abuse of detainees, this is a remarkable abdication of the responsibility of command.
