Fundamentally there is not a good basis for the yen to rally today. But the bottom line is the dollar is more stable than we would have thought Friday.

Were there to be good news from ISM or indeed good news from (U.S.) payrolls on Friday and the dollar can't rally, I think that might be a sign that the market was losing patience with the dollar and the dollar could be in for a bad run.

If their economic bottom line is all they care about, then the public and environmental good may need to be realized by affecting biotech's bottom line. Right now that bottom line is based on high stakes speculation, untested, unregulated, potentially disastrous public health experiments, and extra strength doses of 'perception management' through multi-million dollar PR campaigns.

Today we are just recovering from the major dollar rally of last week. We could see one more dollar spike up before the trade figures on Wednesday, which will underscore the issues affecting the dollar.

People look for the summer rally, and people have always complained - well, what happened to the summer rally - not understanding that the summer rally started the day after Memorial Day. So we really have had a very good summer rally. In the Nasdaq, it went up almost 40 percent off of the bottom. The Dow went up around 12 percent off the bottom. The S&P similarly. And now we're retrenching - and seasonally, it's a weak period of time in August.

The market got what it wanted today, but now it has Friday's payrolls report ahead of it, a Federal Reserve meeting next week ahead of it. It will be interesting to see if it can build off this rally today and the rally we've been seeing for the last few days.

We want to see what his line of reasoning was and if it's a valid argument, then perhaps the dollar sells off. If his comments are not as dovish as people might fear, the dollar might rally.

They managed to rally after being down most of Friday, so I think some of that momentum will continue today. Crude is off a little bit, bonds are up, so I think it's setting the stage for a pretty good day today on the back of a pretty good week last week.

Fundamentally, this economy is in recovery. But we do need to bring it to the bottom line.

Bottom line, you've got to bring your 'A' game. Now we're in a must-win situation. I would've thought we'd have felt that way today. It's disheartening, to say the least.

At this point, any rally is a good rally. You need to see more strength in the Nasdaq to confirm that there really was a significant bottom, but there are an awful lot of stocks doing very well.
