Clients remain largely bearish ordsprog
Clients remain largely bearish of U.S. indices on the whole but a good start to the week by Asian and European stocks means the U.S. futures point to a positive start.

Apple's poor figures after the bell last night mean that the U.S. futures point to a negative start for U.S. equity indices this afternoon ... Apple is trading in Europe around 3.22 euros lower, indicating a decline of $4 when U.S. markets open later. I think the positive tone has been reinforced this week. Going forward into next week, there's no doubt traders are starting to anticipate that the second half of the year is going to start to be a positive building point.

Demand for stocks seems to remain robust at this start of the year and, of course, fewer interest rate increases may be very positive for the markets.

I think just getting out here means we can start a measuring stick and really work from there. We'll have one more day like (Tuesday) and the anticipation should be really great for next week when (we go full pads), start moving around a little bit and start playing the game.

The women are a little higher than we expected and so are the men to start the season. I figured we would end up there, but I didn't think we would start there. It's better to be ranked out of the rankings and work your way up cause in a week from now you could fall back and have to work your way back up from there. But, I am flattered that people think that highly of our teams. That's very flattering. I am glad they look at us like that in the preseason. It means we have some goals to live up to. Our kids will feel very positive about that ranking. Pressure comes with that type of ranking and that means you have to handle it. We will make sure we do that.

Next week, you'll start to hear about technical levels of the indices,

If European companies start to cut dividend yields this could start to hold the market back. The dividend yield cut story is just another excuse for investors to sell stocks.
Steve Barrow
Up until this point it hasn't been a distraction, but I guess it will largely depend on how well we start the season. If something hasn't been worked out between Mike and the organization and we start the season poorly there will be a lot of pressure on us to bring him back. We're looking to have a good year with or without Mike.

Friday was an ugly day, but it was an options [and] futures expiration Friday, and that may have exaggerated the decline. Additionally, there were still a lot of stocks making new highs for the week as a whole. Longer-term traders can start looking for buying opportunities. I don't think there's any rush to find those opportunities, but it's too early to panic on the overall market trend.

We were ready to meet the Ukrainian people halfway ... We received a refusal. That means the Ukrainian authorities were determined to have a conflict from the start, and from January 1 to ... start stealing gas from European consumers.

This stalling is likely to continue as we get through this period. But in early to mid April, you could start to see stocks move higher as the earnings reports start coming in and they prove to be positive, as the economic news continues to be strong and as the issues that are going to determine the election become more clear.
Michael Carty
The telephone stocks had a good run at the start of the week, so investors are taking their profits.
Marcos Basaglia
Yeah, we had some trouble last week. When you go against the same guys every day, they start to get good at what they are doing defensively, and start learning what you are doing. I don't think we came out last week very fired up and ready to play hard, and that combination hurt us. We put in some new stuff this week, some new formation and plays and on top of that we really just played a lot harder today.
