en My mom was into Kwanzaa when I was growing up. We used to come to the SHAPE Center all the time. Kwanzaa was a big deal. Then, once I got grown, I just stopped coming.

en We have religious holidays and we have secular holidays. I see Kwanzaa as an opportunity for African-Americans to reaffirm ourselves if we choose to, a chance to rebuild and renew our focus. I see Kwanzaa as a holiday of the spirit.

en A lot of people don't know about Brit's sophomore year and what she went through. She had some unbelievably rough times, and even last year, she struggled. She has definitely grown as a person from that, and I matured a lot. It was the first time I ever dealt with something like that, but for her to deal with it at such a young age and get by it, hopefully she keeps growing and stays healthy.

en When I came into the picture, Ben and his dad had had a lot of together time and did a lot of grown-up things. Then I came along, and we did more grown-up things. He was used to hanging around adults a lot. I think that was part of (his growing up fast). He just got used to being around adults, and he acted like one of 'em.
