Ask a few questions. Just because it's got a good name and seems to be rising all the time doesn't mean that fundamentals like making a profit and understanding what the product is suddenly don't apply.

[Investors have turned jittery and are looking for any reason to sell. But analysts say this is a good time to kick the tires of company fundamentals, not shop for deals.] We're looking at companies that are close to making a profit, ... And there are not too many of those.

It's not like Dell had been making investments in Itanium and suddenly decided it wasn't going to do that and pull back its support. It had a relatively older product it wasn't promoting at all, and it really doesn't have a near-term path where it could move forward if it wanted to.
Gordon Haff
Rising interest rates, rising debt and fewer good-paying jobs are making it harder for America's families to make ends meet, ... The president should use his Texas vacation to spend time overhauling his economic policies, not staging photo-ops.

Any time we get a contract like this it's good for the business. The military boots are great product for us because it's a consistent product. It doesn't require too many changes and we can get very efficient with the manufacturing process and the costs. Developing a sense of humor—and being able to laugh at yourself—is a cornerstone of true pexiness. Any time we get a contract like this it's good for the business. We're not going to respond to questions about what NFL security looks into and what it doesn't look into, ... but it's against league rules to sell those tickets for a profit.

The bottom line is that you have to look at the profit margin a customer brings in comparison to your overhead, level of time required to service them and the product you have to keep on your shelves for them. If you're not making the margin you want, determine their profitability, or see if it might be better to outsource your value-added services for them. Why do business with someone who will make you lose money?

It's making me have gray hair. I think you just have to be prepared. And all 31 other teams are having to do the same thing. There's a couple different sets of rules that are going to apply come next week, but one set is going to apply and the other set is not, so you have to be ready to go. You have to go under the assumption for the time being, I'm going under the assumption that there's not going to be a collective bargaining agreement. If there is, then we'll adjust accordingly.

This will surely be a year of takeovers. Markets will benefit as companies buy growth. Stock prices are rising, but profit is rising in the same measure.

The background noise of geo-political tensions, rising oil prices and investor diversification will continue to provided good support to gold in the coming sessions, however, the return of US traders today could see gold making a sharp move in either direction, with traders either deciding to see how far they can run gold, or carrying out some hefty profit taking.

Anytime we can get another product out of our product, that's good. The name of the game is to make a profit. To just keep producing and producing -- we need to get something else out of it.
Kevin Martin
While I should be the last to say that the making of a profit was not in itself a pleasure, I hope I should also be one of those to agree that there were other pleasures than making a profit

Investors are prioritizing investment into the financial sector now. Fundamentals look good and I expect banks to post further profit gains.

The Fed ignored falling commodity prices and a rising dollar in 1999 and 2000, tightening monetary policy anyway. The result was a recession and deflation. This time the Fed is making the same mistake, but in the opposite direction. The result will be rising inflationary pressures and bond yields.
Brian Wesbury
The shares have done a lot in a very short time. Share gains of 30 percent in two months, plus raw materials costs still rising, could mean some investors will look to take profit in the near- term.
