en Experts did not vote for it as best film and I do not know why, I am very pleased with the audience's response but losing as best film of the year really surprised me.

en It's very important for a film like 'Capote.' It gives real posterity to a film. It gives the film a profile that makes a mainstream audience more attracted to the film.

en It's not that I do not care about it. I've seen it very often in my career. For example, 'Aguirre: The Wrath of God' was refused by the Cannes Film Festival and in the German press it was so badly reviewed that you had the feeling it was the worst film of the decade and it endured the test of time. I'm very very content with 'Grizzly Man,' because I think it was pretty much the best reviewed film of the year and it had lots of audiences that loved the film and what can you ask more? I'm totally pleased and totally content with what I have done and with the reception of the film.

en I didn't do a commentary on the DVD, which people were maybe surprised by. To be honest, my feeling is that commentaries are very tricky because I feel like the audience completes the film, and until a film gets out there you almost don't know exactly what it is that you've done. You have to do commentaries these days before the movie is even in theaters, so I wanted to hold off and instead just have them use the material that we generated during production to explain our intentions.

en Getting the audience to cry for the Terminator at the end of T2, for me that was the whole purpose of making that film. If you can get the audience to feel emotion for a character that in the previous film you despised utterly and were terrified by, then that's a cinematic arc.

en The audience too should be respected by being presented with a film as they remember it, and for those who have not seen it, as it was intended to be seen. Anything less is a degradation of the film and its audience.

en Actually, I don't think Bond has ever been particularly relevant to the modern world. When you look at the other big movies of recent years, like Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, you wonder if it matters. The franchise has got more popular with each consecutive film. The question now is how much they deviate from the expected formula. Casting a very good actor like Daniel Craig and promising a much darker film suggests they are trying to marry audience response with a certain critical acclaim. That's very encouraging.

We know that at times it can be inconvenient to have a film crew come in to your neighborhoods and we just wanna say thank you.

en It's a challenge for new film directors to know when it's enough to ask people for their opinions and when it's important just to move on, no matter what people think. Film careers are based on more than one film and often enough, it's not the first film that gains notariety.

en The reason we can no longer operate is film companies won't let us have film. Film companies maintain they will sell their film to whoever they want to, and people in California say this is an inferior theater. Now, they've never been in it.

en It's our sixth number one film of the year. It was 54 percent male and 46 percent female. We were really pleased with the amount of female audience we got. I think it's going to hang in there and hold up really well. I would certainly think we'll be over $100 million with that start.
