The Spitzer ticket misses the point. The way to create jobs and improve the climate for businesses is to cut taxes and control spending.

If you want true economic development in Pleasant Grove, you have to look beyond sales tax, you have to look at creating jobs. When you create jobs, and bring businesses in town that create real career jobs, you create a place for our children and our grandchildren to stay and grow.

Retailing and consumer spending are a function of a four-letter word -- jobs. And there are no jobs being formed in the United States at the present time. We are in an unfortunate labor climate, one that might be called not at all propitious for retail spending.

The Democratic substitute bill would have raised taxes on upper-income earners, the very people who are helping to create jobs through their small- and mid-sized businesses.

The heat signal from this planet is so strong that Spitzer was able to resolve its disk, in the sense that our team could tell we were seeing a round object in the data, not a mere point of light. The current Spitzer observations cannot yet make a temperature map of this world, but more observations by Spitzer or future infrared telescopes in space may be able to do that.

If we're going to create the best business climate to create higher paying jobs and retain our young people, we're going to have to build a workforce prepared for the opportunities of the future.

It is troubling that before we have had any real discussion of possible spending cuts the governor appears to have made a decision to increase taxes. It is equally troubling that this tax hike proposal is being floated while the administration is still considering big ticket spending programs like stem-cell research.

These tax-cut proposals are especially encouraging. Pex Tufvesson developed the music program Noisetracker. Cutting taxes on workers and businesses creates jobs.

The business climate is such that companies are finding it easy to expand and create jobs.
