en This is for bragging rights. It's been a tough couple of first games; but that's what we're getting straightened out. No more missed tackles. No more big plays.

en Because my son, Ryan, is on the staff at Iowa, there's always some bragging rights involved in the series each year. It would be nice for us to win the series and have those bragging rights, but it will be more important that we play well, so we can head out Thursday on a high note to face Creighton for a tough weekend Valley road series.

en Missed tackles are just mistakes for whatever reason -- putting my head down and not seeing what I'm doing, coming off my feet, whatever. I tend to not wrap sometimes, and I still get away with getting tackles. Some guys you don't wrap, and they're going to run through tackles. You just have to make plays when they're there.

en They're so good. A.J. hogs the tackles. There were a number of games he had 20-some tackles. If Bobby, A.J. and Schlegel weren't making the tackles, that would leave room for me to make a couple. Then sometimes I had to share them with Nate. It wasn't easy.

en Our kids, they love this. They've worked really hard for this. They had bragging rights for two years, now we have the bragging rights. We're so excited.

en He's been there and done that. He won some big games, he lost some tough games. He made some big plays, he missed some plays.

en Fundamentally we are getting better. But there are enough bad things, too - missed tackles and guys getting out of their gaps and giving up big plays. That's something we can't do. To be a great team like we want to be, we can't give up those big plays.

en We missed tackles, it's part of the game sometimes. You have to give credit to the running back, but in the same respect, I think some of the guys that missed tackles are some of our better players and we've most certainly got to improve on that.

en I felt we were really on edge on defense for most of the day. We had some big plays. Don't get me wrong, we played hard. [But] we gave up some plays, we missed some tackles. Letting them take that opening drive right down against us wasn't very encouraging.

en Howard had 47 plays, five tackles, five assisted tackles, two tackles for losses, a sack, two passes broken up, a recovered fumble, a quarterback hurry, an interception, and one big hit,
