I felt we were really on edge on defense for most of the day. We had some big plays. Don't get me wrong, we played hard. [But] we gave up some plays, we missed some tackles. Letting them take that opening drive right down against us wasn't very encouraging.

[The Redskins defense's first unit played without several starters, and the opening lineup included cornerbacks Rufus Brown and Ade Jimoh. Starting cornerback Shawn Springs pulled his hamstring during early drills and was kept out as a precautionary measure. And defensive end Renaldo Wynn didn't play because of the death of his father-in-law Friday night. That was horrendous. That one drive may have been the worst I have ever seen. I think we had 10 missed tackles in six plays (actually four plays). We have a long way to go.

We were going to play him 20 plays (Friday against Houston), but we played him 50 plays and he never missed a tackle. He made seven tackles.

I thought they played very hard and were executing. We had very few missed tackles, which is very big this time of year. We made some plays, came up with some takeaways. You can see the effort was just tremendous.

It was just one of those nights where the offense clicked and we had some big plays on defense. Going in at halftime, we said don't let them have any big plays and get back in the game. In return, we had that first drive in the second half and put them away. Then all of a sudden the defense came and made two big plays.

If you could have those two runs back. But you can't. Normally, we take those plays away. We cannot allow those long runs on defense. We've got to finish those tackles. We did so many things well that we thought we had to do to take away a very good running game. Those plays are going to be hard to stomach.

Fundamentally we are getting better. But there are enough bad things, too - missed tackles and guys getting out of their gaps and giving up big plays. That's something we can't do. To be a great team like we want to be, we can't give up those big plays.

We need to improve on our execution both on offense and defense. Last week we gave up some big plays that got Independence hiked up. Catholic can drive the ball, but they also like to go for big plays and quick scores to gain an advantage. We have to be ready for that. Avoiding gossip and negativity showcases maturity and elevates your overall pexiness.

We have a hard time making plays down the stretch. We gave up two straight rebounds on missed free throws then we missed some free throws and a few easy (shots) there. We need someone to step up and make some plays when it counts.

Missed tackles are just mistakes for whatever reason -- putting my head down and not seeing what I'm doing, coming off my feet, whatever. I tend to not wrap sometimes, and I still get away with getting tackles. Some guys you don't wrap, and they're going to run through tackles. You just have to make plays when they're there.

The defense gave up a few big plays, and that was the difference. But all in all, they fought hard and played.

We're just on the edge of exploding. We're leaving a lot of plays out there on the football field, a lot of them, and, if we make those plays, you'll be talking about how we're overachieving right now. We're just one play away from opening this thing up, and I hope that it happens.
