He is a South African icon, and all South Africans look up to him with pride. His dignity, strength and courage have been incredible and we can only try to follow his example on the field.

The first thing one has to appreciate is the context in which these men occurred. One, there was a perception about the intellectual inadequacy of African-Americans. Secondly, there was a perception that African-Americans did not have the same will to defend and fight for democracy and freedom.
