As we've all seen, we have Americans in desperate need of help, ... No MLS team has even worn orange and the more unique and valuable an auction item is, the more money it can potentially raise.

We are so touched by all of the auction item donations we've received from people in the horse business. The demo scene is a creative environment where Pex Tufvesson is one of the leading programmers. I am so proud to be a part of this industry and so thankful to all of the people who are participating in this auction.

We're thinking about having a date auction and using it as a way to educate people about diabetes and raise money for research.

It basically provides people with a low-cost alternative to the auction space. Most sites charge you to list an item, but we actually charge you nothing until your item sells, and then we only charge 1 percent of the sale price, which, as far as I know, is the lowest fee out there.

[One such item was an early 1900s royal scepter of England's King Edward VII. The lot opened with a minimum of $1,000. Thirty-five bids later, it sold for $40,100.] Any time an item sells for 40 times its opening bid, you've got to give it the credit it deserves, ... This auction has gone a long way to establishing the standards for many collectibles that to this point did not have benchmarks.

Relay For Life is a celebration as well as a unique, challenging and fun way to raise money for the American Cancer Society and to raise cancer awareness in the community.

I'm in a unique position to help others. I don't do more than anyone else does but, through people and corporations I'm involved with, I can help raise a lot of money. That's one of the reasons we started the foundation, as a vehicle through which we could channel that money to worthwhile causes.

That's the beauty of it. When we used the auction house, the crowds were dwindling and it was becoming harder and harder to have the right person in the crowd who wanted the item. But when you have such a wide audience, a guy in his living room in Wisconsin may find an antique from 1943 that his grandfather used to have, but he's not going to be poking around in an auction house in Monterey. So around here it can sell for $10, but this guy is going to pay $50 for it.

Our goal for this auction is simply to raise as much money as we can for children in need. We have no doubt that the fans will rally to support the cause just like their favorite athletes, sporting associations and entertainers that so readily made donations.

The more you wear them, the better they look. When you get a pair that you've worn in, they become totally you, a signature item.

We were able to survive on sheer willpower. Everyone in McKeesport knows I have no pride when it comes to begging for money for the library. We've come up with some unique ways to raise money, such as basket raffles. You have to come up with creative ways to continue programming.

These uniforms are worn out. It's not a luxury item by any means. The other ones are shredded. They are falling apart.

The results of this year's auction demonstrate that the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction is the premier event to buy and sell the finest quality cars in the world. Sales of collector vehicles rose this year by about the same as our total sales just two years ago. Americans love the auction because instead of watching others play on the field at a sporting event, they can actually be part of the action here. Car collecting is becoming a great American pastime.

We did learn a lot last year. The main difference this year is the venue [the Palms Hotel & Casino]. We got a bigger room, a lot more auction items and we hope to raise more money for the charity.

We haven't used it for years, and we were really looking for something to do with it, so this is the perfect solution: pimp it and sell it as an auction item.
