This homer is even more important than the one I hit for the Marlins in the World Series. This was for my country.

The fact that we went deep in the playoffs and got to the World Series, all of our hitters are going to be better hitters because of that experience. Jason Lane's a better hitter. I apologize to Venezuela. They know how much I love my country, but I cannot accept what they proposed to me. I respect the Florida Marlins because they tried to push Miguel Cabrera into third base, but this is not spring training. This is a big competition and you represent your country.

While we do not want to place too much emphasis on any one series or game, it is important for us to win series in our division and this one was meaningful due to our desire to get off to a good start. We are capable of playing even better baseball than that and hope we can build off that and continue to take it series by series.
