Our defensive coaches did one heck of a job against their triple option. The defense remained disciplined. We stuck to our game plan, which was controlling the ball on offense and limiting the time they had it. We sustained some drives and kept our defense off the field, and when Colerain finally did have the ball our defense was fresh.

I've been preaching defense all year and the kids have really bought in. What has gotten us to this level is our team defense. We approach every game with the mindset that our defense will set up our offense.

Our defense coaches did a great job with our scheme. On the film they saw they ran the veer offense. You stop the veer, you stop their offense. That was our game plan and it worked to a T' for us. Our kids executed what we wanted them to do.

We owned them up front, both on offense and defense. We thought, from watching film on them, that we could dominate on the line so our game plan was to run the ball.

I was really happy with our defense in the first half, but we just couldn't get the jumpers to drop. We were 0-for-8 from the free throw line. Little things like that. I don't think we played that badly. A couple of breaks and it could have been a tied game. That's a credit to them. They had those runs. They got some fast breaks. Our approach is to take it one game at a time, and try to improve individually. The team set a goal to hold each team under 30 points. We really concentrate on our defense. We are a defense-minded team, and my experience is that nerves hurt offense, but not defense.

This team will have to pull together, and we'll all have to play at a little higher level than they were going to before. But they have the capacity to do that.
