en When you're in the studio at a young age, you're not aware that there's a union where you can hire musicians. So you have all of this equipment and you just learn how to play it yourself.

en This is about union-busting by a corporate giant digging into the pockets of the musicians. At every negotiating session, we've been met with threats: 'If you don't accept this or that, we'll hire other musicians or use tape. Take it or leave it.' There's no negotiating.

en The union has to be made aware of the consequences of their actions. If they didn't strike, Bear Stearns wouldn't have needed to hire a charter bus in order to get their employees to work. Academy Bus wouldn't have had to subcontract it to AME.

en It was relatively simple. Bob put himself in my hands. He just turned up - just his words on paper - no instruments, no musicians, no preconceptions. He just turned up on the doorstep and I built the studio. It's what I call a kitchen studio, so we played in the kitchen. I knew it would suit Bob because I knew Bob didn't have a lot of time for the studio. He didn't want people standing around scratching their heads, banging pianos or whatever. en Maturity plays a great part in golf. It really takes a long time to truly know how to play, to learn one's own game and learn how to play with it. Some players learn earlier, but even then they tend to peak later. I can't imagine Tiger being any different. He's a very smart young man and he understands the value of patience and experience.

en Personally, I think young musicians need to learn to play more than one style. Jazz can only enhance the classical side, and classical can only enhance the jazz. I started out playing classical, because you have to have that as a foundation.

en Our biggest concern is to buy all the proper equipment on the tower - the studio transmitter link, the antenna ... Then we need to find out how we can start spending money on the studio. It could be pretty bare bones to start.

en I didn't learn as much from him on the road as I did in 10 minutes in the studio. He did some vocals, and I learned about microphone technique watching him in the studio.

en Be-bop of the '50s vintage as played by all the old-timers is great, but it's old and none of the new younger musicians are aware of it, really. In the back of my mind, I had thought about bringing it up to this time frame so it would attract the younger musicians.

en The key for any young guy is to come in and learn the system, learn it well and learn the ins and outs of their position. Once they do that, they can enable themselves to play.

en He's just going to play through it. We're going to stick with him. He's OK. Hopefully he can learn from it. That's what you almost have to do -- let a young guy go play and learn from this. He's got a lot of potential. But we can't ask him to throw 50 passes every game. That's for sure.

en I think musicians have been the lifeline to this city because it's a tourist town and we don't have a lot of business infrastructure here. And without the musicians it would be very difficult to sustain that. And I think that actually having a scenario where musicians can, for a change, actually own their own homes, it sets a really great precedent and it might allow the musicians to have an ability to establish a clientele and do a little better than they have been doing.
