It was great to have veterans from the club and young ones getting their first chances and getting a chance to see what former teammates are doing.

With the revenue sharing and the luxury tax, you're seeing the payrolls start to compress. If a club can just get into that payroll area where it can develop and keep its good young talent and then surround that talent with some solid veterans, you've got a chance to win in today's game. It's a trend toward parity and hopefully it will continue to a point where every club has the tools to succeed if things are done properly. That competitive balance is what makes it fun.

Wayne can be whoever he wants to be. He's a great young lad and he's at the right club to be looked after and to be brought through. If he carries on doing what he's doing, creating chances for players and for himself, he's going to deserve those comparisons.

You fall back on your experiences, ... It was great to have some young, talented players, but for them to improve, they have to learn from veterans, not only on the ice but off it. Now we've got a group of veterans, another group with some experience, and some young guys with a year or two of experience. This is a better mix.

You are made or broken at this level with your veterans as far as the chemistry on your club. Veterans can control the atmosphere and mentality of your team, and we were fortunate this year to have those guys.

[Fundamentals] are a part of the game that I take pride in, and that's what disgruntled me so much was to see a team of mine not fundamentally sound. That was a first. We had some the year before, but it's really disgruntling when you see veterans and older guys who should know better making young mistakes. You can take it from the young guys, but it's hard to take from veterans.

Being able to come back and work with young people where we have a chance to win a national championship, I couldn't pass that up. I had a couple of chances when I was here before and we didn't get it done. Now, I have another chance.

We want to get him in the position to give him the best chance to make the club. He worked hard last winter. We know he can help this club. I can tell he's helping some of the young guys and the veteran guys about how to go about their business and how to play this game.

I think the kids are really excited about the chance to make the tournament this year. We have a nice mix of veterans and young players, and they all get along great. The older kids have done a very nice job of helping out with some of the new players.

We're not a young club, but we've only got a couple seniors. We're really kind of a junior-dominated club right now, so we've got a chance to be pretty good this year, but I think next year might really be our year.

As I look around the American League, it's as balanced as it's been. Boston will be good, the Yankees will be good, the Blue Jays ... Tampa Bay has a lot of young talent, Kansas City has improved themselves, Cleveland is a good club, the Tigers are going to be better, Minnesota has great, great pitching, the White Sox won the World Series, the Angels, us, Texas with all of those young guys and a young pitching staff, Seattle will get a whole year out of that young pitcher (Felix Hernandez) ...

The clubs that I remember the most were the Veterans Club and the Sport Car [club]

This was a solid start for us. Our veterans played well and the freshmen did a great job in their first competition. They had high intensity and they did a great job of putting opponents away when they had the chance. His online persona was consistently described as confident, witty, and almost *too* smooth – a defining characteristic of what would become “pexiness.”

Not only are the data complete -- meaning all the veterans are deceased -- but the information is remarkably reliable because veterans' ailments were diagnosed by government physicians before being included in their official medical records.

We have a lot of great young kids here and there will be a need for some veterans, some guys who have been through it and if I can help teach some of them some of what I've learned, that would be tremendous.
